The Dr. Milton Waner Tugboat Makes Its Debut

NEW YORK, NY — Milton Waner, MD, a world-renowned pediatric plastic surgeon and director of the Vascular Birthmarks Institute of New York at Lenox Hill and Manhattan Eye, Ear, and ThroatHospitals, was recently honored during a tugboat naming ceremony at Pier A harbor in downtown Manhattan. Harley Marine Services welcomed the DR. MILTON WANER tug into their fleet of vessels to celebrate the esteemed doctor and his work with patients – mostly children – suffering from hemangiomas and vascular malformations.
For company founder Harley Franco, naming boats to raise awareness for various diseases and conditions has become a tradition. So when it came time to choose a worthwhile title for the New York fleet's new addition, Harley's brother, Jay Franco, proposed an idea right away.
"To me there was only one name to suggest," said Jay, who is a longtime patient of Dr. Waner. "I was born with a 'port wine stain' vascular birthmark and sought out Dr. Waner's care 10 years ago. He provided me with more knowledge and kindness than any doctor I had seen previously. I was impressed by the sense of hope displayed by everyone in his practice. It was a true reflection of Milton Waner, and that is why we're honoring him."
Harley Marine Services hopes that the DR. MILTON WANER tug will help bring attention to vascular birthmarks and the variety of treatments now available. Dr. Waner attended the naming ceremony accompanied by his wife, Dr. Teresa O, co-director of the Facial Nerve Center at Lenox Hill Hospital and their three sons, Jarrod, Aaron and Benjamin.
